WHO has removed India from the list of Polio-endemic countries. The country has not had a reported case of Polio for one year, and if they keep that up for two more years, they’ll be declared Polio-free. This is mostly thanks to programs to vaccinate every child, even in the most remote areas of India. That’s obviously not an easy task, and the people who made that happen are real heroes. The effort to keep India Polio-free will be ongoing, and they will continue to combat the disease with vaccines and emergency response plans. This is a great win for science and medicine. Just three more countries to go, and the world will be Polio-free.
