One of my best friends, currently an atheist in a foxhole, reminded me about the Parenting Beyond Belief Column Competition. If you haven’t read Parenting Beyond Belief: On Raising Ethical, Caring Kids Without Religion edited by Dale McGowan, let me strongly recommend it. The book has parenting essays from some of the world’s brightest freethinkers.
Now, you too can get in on the action. Write up the best secular/humanist/atheist parenting column you can muster and send the 600-800 word article to parentingbeyondbelief.com before October 6th. The winner gets published multiple times and gets bragging rights.

Also, I’ve been asked to spread the word about Survivor Corps, a charity dedicated to cleansing war-torn countries of harmful munitions such as landmines and cluster bombs. You can also read the book I will Not Be Broken by Jerry White, which is a collection of stories about overcoming tragedy written by a landmine survivor.
Be careful of giving money to any charity before checking on it first. This charity seems to be a worthwhile cause, and it gets high marks from this rating service. Nobody likes cluster bombs or land mines. Help these guys out.
